New Soul launched in South Africa by Kia

After the revealing at the Paris Motors Show in September 2016, the enhanced Kia Soul made its arrival on South African shores this week. Featuring a number of design updates, Kia is claiming that the Soul’s styling is complemented by the introduction of a new turbo diesel powered entry level mode.

Being introduced locally in November 2014, the second generation Kia Soul has established itself firmly as an anti establishment crossover and is offering the space as well as the practicality of an mpv and the features and quality of an SUV. According to Kia in a market of mundane crossovers as well as smaller suv’s, the Soul has always been able to give something a little different and stand out. The company added that as an alternative, the Soul is giving consumers a great way to express themselves in a practical as well as a funky way, although with all the features and the quality people are expecting from Kia.

Kia is also introducing a new turbo charged diesel derivative to the range. The Soul 1.6 CRDI is starting by being powered by Kia’s U2 1.6 liter turbo diesel engine that is giving 96kW of power at 4 000 rpm and 260Nm between 1900 and 2750 rpm. This engine is mating to a six speed manual transmission and according to Kia, with no automatic option available.

The Soul is starting with features with a comprehensive list of standard specification that include a radio with MP3/Aux/USB jacks, RSD, six speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, immobilizer, central locking, a rear view mirror, electric window front and back, electrochromatic rearview mirror, electric heated side mirrors with integrated indicators as well as a leather wrapped steering wheel. The Soul is also featuring six airbags, abs brakes, active headrests; Isofix child seat anchors and an impact sensing door unlock function.

Kia added that the latest turbodiesel Soul 1.6 start is most likely the best build most spacious as well as well specced diesel crossover below R400 000. The exterior updates also include remodeled front bumpers as well as metallic skid plates. Kia has also given the Soul’s grille and headlights a small revision. Revisions to the Soul’s cabin have been kept to the minimum.
